From The Free School at ottonomy.net
Welcome to the Free School at ottonomy.net.
A Free School is a non-hierarchical institution where people gather together to share and explore learning. While most involve physical meeting places, there is no incompatibility between this structure and online learning. This site runs on the MediaWiki software that powers Wikipedia, which allows anyone to collaborate on producing content. This is an open-ended community. While it lives in Nate Otto's personal Web infrastructure, others may collaborate at will.
We will be offering courses on specific subjects of interest to the community. If you have questions or would like to host a course, contact Nate Otto (ottonomy)

Getting started
Courses
A course is a path; in the educational sense it is a path through related information. In traditional school courses, teachers curate a path through a subject based on their expertise. In a non-hierarchical open education model, a course is not set in stone. It meanders. Also, amateurs are just as likely to organize a course as experts.

Knowledgebase
I, Nate, plan to post some of the information generated in the "churn" of my regular research on a variety of topics. My current interests are in open education and political economy, so as I go over some of the most important works in these fields, my notes will be published here, for reference and discussion. If anybody else wants to do the same, they are welcome.
Subjects of Interest
- Political Science, particularly the political economy of localization. Nate Otto has been studying the food economy and how to reduce the number of miles between an ingredient's source and your plate. He's got ideas about how to structure a currency to encourage local food production but is also interested in the sorts of changes that can be made at the individual level.
